Hello 2009!

A Very Happy New Year to you all....

Can you believe that we're in 2009 already? What a whirlwind of ups and downs we had in 2008.

We made it back to Sacramento on New Year's Eve, after spending a few days in Phoenix with Michaela's Dad Skip and his family. We got a chance to see Skip and his brother Mike, Michaela's Grandma June, as well as several Aunts, Uncles, and a few cousins. Landon had a lot of fun exploring Grandma June's house, and really had a blast playing with Michaela's cousin Kristi's kid's toys...we went over to Kristi and Brian's house in Awhatukee, Arizona one day to visit and spend some time with their four kids (we couldn't believe how big all of their kids are getting!).

We did have a great time in Phoenix, mostly just enjoying each other's company and getting in a quality visit.

I am happy to report that we had another successful flight with Landon. He basically slept through the whole thing...Getting all of our stuff back from Arizona was a bit of a challenge, as it seems like we left with alot more than we came with. Somehow we managed to do it, although we had to do some last minute weight distribution adjustments at the aiport to get under that 50-lb per bag limit. Our two largest bags ended up weighing 50 and 49.5 lbs respectively!

New Year's Eve was extremely uneventful for our Burgess clan. We got home around mid-day and really just unpacked and relaxed. We were pretty excited to get back to see our dogs, and feel the comfort of our own bed. I think we made it to about 9:30pm before calling it a night! Boy, how our lives have changed from only a few years ago.

As for Landon, now that he's back to his own house, it's back to business as usual with him...Since our house is pretty well baby-proofed, he loves to cruise from room to room to see what kinds of stuff he can get into. Here's a picture of him opening the cabinet that holds our pots and pans. I figured that I didn't need to "baby lock" them because there is nothing sharp in there, but I have a feeling he'll be hitting us with an 8-lb frying pan within a week!

While I think that the dogs are really glad that we're back at home, I think that they will miss those quiet nights with my sister Nicole and no baby to terrorize them...oh well, they're good sports!
Other than that, the 5 of us are just planning to enjoy our last few days off before heading back to the grind on Monday. It really has been a great break for us, getting to see a bunch of family and friends, enjoying great meal after great meal, and getting in some much needed R&R.
We all hope you had great holidays as well.
Here's hoping that 2009 is the best year yet...With all the developmental milestones that Landon has reached in the 9 months so far, it's scary to think about what he'll be doing this time next year...who knows, maybe he'll be the one writing this post?!?!
On one last final note - we wanted to wish Grama Carol a very happy 80th Birthday! We sure wish we could have stayed a little longer to celebrate with her!! Hope the party is fun - we love you!!
