Boys will be Boys

Apparently little boys are kind of crazy and totally fearless. Did you know this? Well our son definitely falls into this category, and from discussions with some of our friends, it seems like they’re all pretty nuts.

Landon just takes life head-on, with little regard for the consequences. A prime example of this is our recent trip to the park/playground yesterday. Landon took a quick look around all of the equipment, then made a beeline directly towards the tallest slide in the place! Rather than waste his time on the “little kid” stuff, he wanted to go straight to the “big kid” stuff. Well, we were worried that the slide would be scary when he got to the top, but he got a huge smile and his face and went for it. Not only that, but when he was done he went back for more…and more….AND MORE! Needless to say he had a great time and we’ll probably look to do that more often, as he was pretty pooped by the time we got home.

Another thing that we’ve noticed with the boys, is that we’re totally desensitized to the sight of scratches, bruises, or other signs of injury that may appear on our son’s body and/or face. Hopefully this doesn’t make us bad parents, but it really is just the nature of the situation. He’s a little boy (fearless and crazy, remember?), and he is going to get some boo-boos. Then layer in the fact that he has to climb everything that he comes in contact with, and that he hasn’t fully mastered the finer parts of his motor skills yet, and you can see that this is a recipe for disaster.

A prime example of this took place last Friday. We got a call from daycare (an immediate reason to hold our breath) to tell us that Landon had been scratched by one of his “friends”. If they were really one of his friends, I am not sure that they would have scratched him, but for now I’ll let the point go. Anyhow, they warned us that the scratch was on his face and was “pretty bad”, so they wanted to forewarn us. As we walked into the classroom to pick him up, we could immediately sense that something was off, and the teachers were looking at us as though we might start screaming at any second. We took one look at him (as you can see from the picture, he had a nice gash going down his face), shrugged, and said we’d see them next Monday. I mean honestly, what can you do? We know that they do their best when they watch him, and we do our best the rest of the time. These things happen….but if I find out which one of his so-called “friends” did this, they’re going down…mark my words! And if they happen to be reading this right now, they should be very, very afraid of Landon’s Daddy!*

*On a side note, we went over to Kindercare for a family BBQ night on Friday. We had a great time socializing with Landon’s friend’s parents, and Landon had fun playing with his buddies. But I did manage to start a mental list of suspects for the scratching incident. So far I’ve narrowed it down to “Baby Face”, “Stinky”, and “Tub-a-lubs” (in accordance with laws protecting the identities of minors, their names and pictures have been removed). I’ll keep you posted as I learn more about the incident.

As I said, these are just the normal things that come with being the parents of a crazy, fun, amazing little boy.

This weekend he got his very own chair (thanks Grandma Dawn and Grandpa Dennis), and he really enjoys sitting on it to look at his books or watch his Baby Einstein show.

We also got in a very nice lunch at the Elephant Bar with Grandpa Barry and Cora, where Landon was on his best behavior. Since the lunch pushed his naptime way back, we were on edge that he was going to throw a fit the whole time. But he really did knock our socks off with how well he behaved!

Other than that, our weekend was mostly spent cleaning up the house, running a few errands, and then enjoying the nice weather in our backyard. It was just hot enough where we wish we had a pool, but not so hot that we were miserable outside.

Oh yeah, and last but not least, we gave Jack his very own haircut on Sunday. It took us a while to find our groove, but we eventually hit our stride and Jack was excellent. He just laid there the whole time while we whacked at his thick coat. At the end of the day, it definitely does not look like a professional job, but it looks good enough for us. The main thing is that he’s cooler for the summer, he won’t shed nearly as much as he has been (which means less runs with the vacuum), he didn’t have to sit at the groomer all day, and it saved us a chunk of change…so we view it as a success….now if only we could figure out why Jack is avoiding all the mirrors in the house…

Did you buy cheap clippers or nicer ones? I had cheap one and they did a terrible job. Mere bought a nicer set and it made a huge difference, still not professional, but better.

I guess we got the "in between" clippers, so it gave us an "in between" job. :)

Watch out guys...looks like Landon might be a dare devil like his Aunt Ramsey! Six Flags, bungi jumping and sky diving may be in the near future!! Go Landon!

His Daddy will take him to do them all! I haven't been bungee jumping yet, but I skydived from 13,000 feet, so I'm game!
