Weekends with Landon

What will we see this weekend?

That is the question that Michaela and I often ask ourselves as the next weekend approaches. When it comes to having a baby in the house, you really never know what to expect from one day to the next. The weekends have actually become even more of a treat since Landon has entered our lives…before the baby, the weekend was a time of rest and recovery, where we’d sleep in late, get all of our errands done, and party it up….now that we have Landon, the weekends are really the best time for Michaela and I to spend quality time with our son.

While it is an unfortunate by-product of having a dual income household, Landon spends a good portion of his time at daycare. If we did the math on it, he probably spends about 10 hours per day, 5 days per week at daycare, so that works out to 50 hours. Let’s say that he sleeps another 9 hours per night (being generous), which equates to 63 hours. So if we take those two out of the total number of hours, that means that we have about 55 hours per week to see Landon (or approximately 33% of the total time in the week)…

Isn’t that just crazy!?!? He spends a little over 1/3 of his time sleeping, a little under 1/3 of his time at daycare, and the other 1/3 with us. So as you can see, the weekends are a pretty big deal to us. This is where we get to “catch up” with Landon, to see what new tricks he has learned at daycare, to play with him as much as we can, and to do our darndest to teach him whatever we can before the new week begins.

As we’ve mentioned quite a bit lately, Landon is all over the place. He is a crawling machine, and he has begun exploring the house, as he can pretty much get anywhere he feels like going. He has not mastered the step yet, so he can’t get into the front room…but it’s only a matter of time, as he seems to genuinely want to figure out how to get up there. One nasty side effect of Landon’s newfound mobility is the vast array of bruises and scrapes that he accumulates. Most days he looks like he was just in a street brawl or something….but I guess it’s all part of the learning process…just the other day he learned that when he sits down too fast and slams his face into the doorframe, it hurts and will leave a bruise…

One thing that he’s learned to do with his mobility is facilitate getting himself picked up. He now likes to crawl up to Michaela and I, put both of his hands on our leg, and then either give us a smile or a look that says “Please pick me up!!”…while we have to be more careful when we’re walking around now, it is nice to have him come to us if he wants to be picked up, rather than sitting there crying.

We also tried a new food with Landon this week and he ended up loving it…it was none other than Stove Top stuffing! For those of you with babies, I strongly recommend trying this food, as it’s very mushy, easy for them to breakdown and swallow, and has a great taste….anyhow…Landon was all over it! We even try to by the healthy whole wheat kind!

For this weekend…while the new James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, came out today, I don’t think I’m going to be able to find the time to go see it…maybe next weekend. We are going to my Mom’s house for dinner tomorrow night to celebrate her birthday (which is Sunday). We’re planning on the usual errands and chores on Saturday, and a very nice and relaxing Sunday (the Cowboys play a must-win game against the Redskins on Sunday night, so I might not be too relaxed). Other than that, we’re hoping it’s a very quiet weekend.

On a side note, Michaela’s Nana Alice made it through her surgery this morning and is in recovery. We will continue to think happy thoughts for her and hope that she recovers quickly.

We hope you all have a great weekend and we’ll talk again soon.

PS - I had to post this picture. Doesn't it look like he's thinking..."Mmm, goooood."
