Some new stuff to share

Looks like we’re starting to slack on the blog posts again! Sometimes life just gets busy. Not that we have a million new things or updates to talk about, but just the every day things can take up your time. Let’s see if we can recap what we’ve been up to. For starters, you can see that Landon has been trying to spend as much time as he can outside in his pool. From time to time Daddy will join him for a refreshing dip...typically Landon starts out with clothes on, but as the diaper soaks up the water, the clothes start coming off.

Landon is doing great sleeping in his own bed. It’s been a huge relief for all of us. I’m just happy that the transition was so smooth. Last night for example, we sat and read a book while rocking in the glider. Landon happily drank his milk from his sippy cup while we read one of his all time favorites, “Good Night Moon.” He loves to point out the different things as I say them. “Good Night Moon” and he will repeat “Moon” while pointing to the moon. After reading his book, we normally rock for a few minutes before heading to his bed, but last night he said “Nye Nye” after we finished his book and then proceeded to climb down off my lap and run to his room. I walked in as he was climbing up on to his bed and grabbing Sandy his penguin to snuggle with. What a change from a month ago!

Perhaps it’s the fact that he’s sleeping so well in his bed that has caused his vocabulary to increase exponentially! It truly feels like it happened over night. This morning, as Dustin was getting Landon ready for school, they were looking at a book together. I was in the other room ironing my pants for work and overheard the following:

Dustin: “Landon, can you find Elmo?”
Landon: “Elll-mo?”
Pause…
Dustin: “That’s right! Good job. Can you find Ernie?”
Landon: “Errr-neeee?
Pause as pages are flipped through…
Dustin: “Yeah, that’s Ernie. Good job! Can you find Big Bird?”
Landon: “Bii-Bird!”

I was amazed listening in to their conversation. It really feels like over night, Landon has decided he was going to start mimicking our words. He also says Guinness now too, which sounds more like “Guh-ness”. It’s pretty funny to listen to him call Guinness from the other room. Not that favorites are fair, but her certainly favors Guinness right now...probably because Guinness is never far away when Landon has food in his hands while Jack is content to watch from afar.

We’ve also been expanding Landon’s palate for foods lately. I feel extremely lucky that he is not a finicky eater and will try just about anything, unless we over sell it. He recently took a liking to this Black Beans and Rice mix we make. It’s one of my favorites as well, so I was thrilled when Landon immediately asked for more after taking his first bite. It also gives him the opportunity to practice more with his spoon. As we have mentioned before, the kid loves to mix up his foods in combinations that we wouldn't have thought of before...in the picture to the right you can see another example, as he proceeded to dunk all of his chicken nuggets in the blueberry yogurt, then scarfed them all one at a time! Even Daddy was impressed with his boy's eating skills after that one (yes, we admit that he needs to work on the whole "not making a mess" thing).

Other then that, we don’t have a ton of updates. This weekend, we’re planning on joining the Burgess family in Lake Tahoe for Grampa Barry’s 50th Birthday. We’re looking forward to celebrating with him and playing some golf (Dustin) and relaxing with some good wine (Michaela) and company (everyone). Hopefully we’ll have some fun pictures to share when we get back. Hopefully we can get another short post up before then though, so check back soon!

That's awesome he's sleeping so well, in his very own "big boy bed" no less. Hope you have a great time in Tahoe!
