Time to Climb!!!

Hey Everybody,

I hope that your weekend treated you well. We got a ton of rain this weekend, but we did our best not to let that keep us down…in fact, it ended up being quite an interesting weekend at the Burgess household to say the least…

It started on Friday after work when the three of us headed over to Macaroni Grill to meet my Mom and Dennis, as well as my Aunt Karen, Uncle Michael, and cousin Ashley for dinner. Landon did a pretty good job of keeping it together through most of the dinner (the kid’s favorite food is pasta, so he was all over it), but he did hit the wall at one point, as it was past his bedtime.

Saturday morning we got up just in time to have our new oven delivered. Our old one finally kicked the bucket, so we had one delivered (Sears has great deals if you are interested). We did have one scary moment when Michaela sliced open her finger while cutting a lime (yes it was for a beer!)…it bled something fierce, but we didn’t think that she needed stitches so we elected to continue on with our plans….After that, we spent some quality time playing with Landon and relaxing before hitting the road once again. This time we headed over to our friends Matt and Cathy’s house to have dinner and spend some time with them and their two girls (Abby and Ally).

Landon really got a huge kick out of playing with all their toys, as they had a bounce house filled with balls, little kid chairs, and all sorts of things that he has never played with before. He eventually set out to explore the house, and he discovered the stairs to the second floor…which was bad news for us. After his discovery, we had to get up every 2.5 seconds to go grab him before he headed back up to the second story! He wasn’t all that interested in coming down the stairs (he did it once or twice), but he sure loved climbing up!

We ended up having a really nice time and a great dinner (they made baked ziti)…Landon showed off some of his newly-learned skills, and their girls were really great about sharing their toys, snacks, and pretty much everything else with Landon.

On Sunday, we did our best to dodge the rain while running random errands, and then spent as much time as we could entertaining the little guy. We read books, watched Finding Nemo (he loved Crush the Sea Turtle, but ignored most of the movie), played with toys, and invented a fun new game where he climbs up on to Daddy or Mommy’s back and we crawl around like a horse. We also tried to get some cleaning knocked out, as our house was beginning to look like the Dallas Cowboy’s practice facility after the storm…http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4136258

As for what’s new with the kiddo, the main thing I wanted to touch on was the climbing…the kid is a climbing fanatic! Obviously he loved the stairs, but he takes on pretty much anything in his sights…dining room chairs, the dishwasher, sofa, ottoman, bed…you name it! He really likes to climb up, then do a little victory dance when he’s reached the summit…I’m sure you can imagine how we feel about that. It’s really only a matter of time before he climbs onto a chair and tips it over, or climbs on to the dishwasher and breaks it, as he’s getting awfully heavy….

The last couple of days have also been a little rough on Landon from a health perspective. We think he has a bit of a cold, but it could possibly be teething as well. Michaela thinks that he might be getting his “eye” teeth in (the pointy ones)…so we’re wondering if he’s going to end up with vampire fangs like his Mommy, or more “normal” teeth like his Daddy. ;) Either way, if it is teething, then hopefully it will pass soon...because Landon hasn't been sleeping well, and by association...neither have we. I think it's been about a week straight now where he wakes up around 1am or so and cries for a while...normally we can get him back down in a matter of minutes, but this last week has been anything but normal...oh well, this too shall pass!

We hope that this week flies by at warp speed, as I’m already looking forward to the upcoming weekend (and the release of Star Trek on Friday…warp speed, get it???). We also have Mother’s Day on the radar, so Landon and I better get on our “A” game to make sure that it’s a fun one for Michaela.

Have a great week and remember to be careful what you climb on...you just might end up behind bars...
