Storms and Such...

Looks like another rainy weekend here in California. Seems like we've been inundated with wind and rain this past week and can look forward to a fair bit more in the weeks ahead...but I'm not complaining too much, as it could be alot worse. Michaela's Dad Skip works in Flagstaff Arizona, and they got nearly 4 feet of snow this week! They actually got so much snow that they couldn't get to and from their house (they live in a rural area), so their company had to put them up in a hotel so they could get to work! And then there's Haiti....

Since this blog is going to serve in part to tell Landon about what was going on in his life when he was young, I think it important to at least mention the disastrous earthquake that struck Haiti several days ago. The death toll is well over 100,000 people so far (and rising), and the country is in complete chaos. I want to say how thankful I am that my friends and family are all safe and healthy and also to send my thoughts and prayers to all the people (especially the children and parents) that have been affected by this calamity.

Ok, now that we got that out of the way....on to the blog post!

Here are a couple of pictures with Landon and his good buddy Nicholas. We had Nick and his parents (John and KC) over to our house last weekend for food and fun. The boys had a blast playing with each other, and managed to keep one another entertained while the grownups watched football and chatted.

Landon wasn't too shy about sharing his new toys with Nick. They really enjoyed playing with the choo choo train set and the trampoline. After a dinner of pizza and veggies, the boys dove into some delicious cupcakes. At first Landon didn't really know what to think of them, but after watching his buddy scarf down one of them, he got in on the action! As you can see by the picture, Nicholas elected to go topless for the main event.

Other than the fun we had on Saturday, our weekend was pretty low-key. Sunday was filled with watching football, including the last Cowboys game of the season. I say that with a heavy heart, as we got destroyed by 40-year old Brett Favre and his Minnesota Vikings. Oh well, there's always next year!

This week was overall pretty routine, with a couple of new things. Bath time has become a little more palatable (for us) and fun (for him), as we recently got Landon some bath time crayons. Now he can sit still and color and draw on the walls and tub for a few minutes before soaping and getting ready for bed. In the past, he was always a little bugger that wanted to scream and splash and cause general chaos....let's just say that this way is much easier.

We have also been working with him on brushing his teeth quite a bit. We have been attempting this every morning and night for the past few months, with varied results. This week he seems to have regressed a little, as he really enjoys sucking the kids toothpaste and water off the brush, but he really doesn't want to actually scrub. As you can tell by this picture, he insists on using a big boy toothbrush instead of a kids one...

Another story that I wanted to share, even though it's a few weeks late, I like to call "Landon and his milk pea soup". I think the title really sums it all up, but just in case you're interested in the details...a couple of weeks back we were sitting around the table eating dinner...we have been working with Landon on drinking out of cups without the sippy cup lids...I'd say he's about 70/30 now, where 70% of the time he's good about drinking, then gently setting the cup back down...the other 30% he ends up chugging the drink, with half of it dripping down his face. Anyhow, Landon was having peas and carrots as part of his meal, and while Michaela and I were talking, we noticed that he was experimenting with putting his peas and carrots into his milk to see if they floated. At first we thought it was funny, but then we noticed that he wasn't stopping! The next thing we know, he had all of his veggies in his milk cup (that was filled with milk)...so now I'm sitting here thinking "great, what a waste of vegetables"....but nope, Landon decided it looked alright, and started gulping down the milk....we think he might have drank a couple of the veggies, but as you can see, most of them ended up at the bottom of his cup....but don't worry, they didn't go to waste...he subsequently ate all of them...just like you can see in this picture. Wow!
As for this weekend, it's going to be pretty laid back...My Dad is coming over tomorrow to help me with a home project, and then we're all planning to hang out together and watch some good football (hopefully).
We hope you have a great weekend...stay dry, and have fun!
I'll leave you with this video that Michaela took on her day off last Monday (MLK)...it's a few minutes long and just shows Landon chatting her up....enjoy!
