Aww, Man!

Well it’s been another VERY BUSY WEEK in the Burgess household. Some days just fly by at a warp speed and it’s hard to keep up. Luckily we have a nice long weekend to look forward to…but we’ll get to that. In the meantime, let's get to the updates!

Landon continues to surprise us every day with new words and new actions. One in particular this week was Landon’s use of the word “phone”. Not just seeing the phone and calling it by name, but hearing the phone ringing and then Landon coming to us pointing and saying “phone” like, “Hey, the phone is ringing. Shouldn’t you get that? I can’t figure out which button to push yet!” It took both of us by surprise as we hadn’t heard him say that word before. We’ll just add it to his ever expanding vocabulary! He’s also getting very good at saying “Jack” and “Guinness”. He will call both dogs by name…especially when he wants to give them some of his food!

Since we slacked on the posts so far this week, let's look back at last weekend. On Saturday, I went running with our friend KC and we were able to log just shy of 12 miles. I know this has nothing to do with Landon right now, but that’s okay. We have 11 more days until our Half Marathon in San Francisco where we will run 13.1 miles through the city street of SF only to be greeted by the SF Fire Dept decked out in tuxes who will present all finishers with a custom made Tiffany’s necklace just for this event. While it may not be directly related to Landon, it will be something that Landon can discover about his Mom when he reads about his first years someday.

Saturday evening KC, John and their son Nicholas came over for a last minute BBQ, filled with beer, wine, and craziness. The adults got to hang out and chat while the two little boys played and had so much fun together! Nicholas is 2.5 months older then Landon and is about as sweet as can be. His vocabulary is also much better then Landon’s and it’s funny to hear him yell through the window, “Landon! Landon!”. They ran around like mad men for a couple of hours climbing and jumping off everything in sight. It’s really been beautiful lately with the cooler temperatures and we can enjoy our back yard without sweating. Both boys learned a new phrase while hanging out together. “Aww, Man!” It’s pretty funny to hear out of the mouths of the little ones and is certainly better then the “oh, shit” Landon had taken to saying a few weeks back.

Sunday morning started out with another early morning for yours truly. KC and I were up running again, this time for a 5k we had signed up for a while back. Normally 3 miles isn’t bad at all, but following a 12 miler, it was tough. Even with that excuse, I was still shocked to find out I placed 6th over all in my age group. Not too shabby at all! Unfortunately (for me) I came home to realize that Landon had chosen that particular morning to sleep in until 7:45 (the latest he has EVER slept in)... when I wasn’t around to reap the benefits! At least Daddy got to enjoy it.

We think Landon slept so long because his body is fighting off an illness. He has been very congested for a few days now and we recently had to take him to the doctor because he had white bumps on his tongue. After a little investigation by the doctor, it turns out Landon has Thrush, which is a non-contagious bacterial infection of the mouth. The doctor prescribed him some antibiotics and he's been back at daycare ever since. It really hasn't seen to slow him down at all, except for the nights, where we think he notices how uncomfortable it can be. For the last two weeks Landon was sleeping in his own bed all night without waking up at all...but since his illness he has been waking up every couple of hours crying, and it's been rough on all of us...oh well, it will pass just like everything else.

Sunday was a very mellow day filled with football, errands, and a nice little visit from Grandma Dawn who got to read and play with Landon for a few hours.

The only other “mile stone” we have this week is that today is our 3rd Wedding Anniversary. Three years ago today, Dustin claims he won the lottery…and I have to agree. We are both very lucky people and look forward to the lifetime full of memories we can look forward to over the next half a century together. While this blog will cease to exist in internet form, we will always have pictures and memories and hopefully will have turned this blog into a book by then!

As for the coming days, we have big plans this weekend as Grampa Steve & Nana Rachael are coming to visit for the weekend from Yuma. We’ll all be participating the American Diabetes Associations Step Out walk to fight diabetes Saturday morning along with anything else we can think of doing.

Hopefully you will check back soon from those adventures!

I hope Landon feels better soon and hopefully the 2 of you were able to celebrate your special day together!

That's cool that he knows the dogs. I was just talking to Mere about how it will probably take Molly forever to figure out which dog is which since they look so much alike. Maybe I'm not giving her enough credit though.
