Happy Holidays Everyone!
We have had a very nice few days off at "Casa de Burgess", and I figured it was high time we put up a Thanksgiving post. Michaela and I both had Friday off, so we are smack in the middle of a nice 4-day weekend, and so far it's been wonderful.
Thursday we got up and had a nice Thanksgiving day breakfast (after Michaela braved the freezing temperatures to get in a run), then I headed off to play a little football with my Mom's family while Michaela and Landon watched the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Apparently Landon didn't get into it that much, but maybe next year...Anyhow, we decided it would be a better idea if Landon came over for the Thanksgiving festivities after he had hi
s lunch and his nap, and we think that ended up being the right strategy.
After football, we all headed back to my Aunt Lisa's house to watch my Cowboys roll over the pitiful Raiders, and to enjoy some snacks, drinks, and games...It was really great to see all of my family that we haven't seen in a while, and the cousins (Samantha and Danielle especially) couldn't wait for Landon to arrive....after his nap was in the books, Michaela and Landon headed over, and from then on it was "go-go-go" time....he really loved exploring Lisa's enormous house, playing with his cousins (and their toys), and meeting their pets (including a bird, two dogs, and two cats).
Dinner was phenomenal, and Landon did a respectable job of eating his first Thanksgiving Day meal...I was actually more impressed with Michaela, who ate homemade stuffing for a change (she is a Stove Top girl who is very picky about her stuffing)...she ended up really liking it, so I'm glad she tried....As dinner didn't really end up getting over until almost 7pm, we sort of had to "eat and run", but after a long day of being over there, it was time for Landon to hit the sack. We
wanted to make sure and say a big "Thank You!" to Lisa and Bryon for hosting again this year...we had a great time.
Yesterday we woke up early to brave the crowds at Target for Black Friday...it was an insane experience, as there were so many people there (we showed up at 6am which was way too late apparently)...I actually got claustrophobic in Target due to the crazy amount of people there...but we managed to take advantage of the great deals, and we knocked out a good portion of our Christmas shopping, which works for us.
After that, we headed home to enjoy a nice family day, filled with some wind and rain, and a whole lot of Christmas decorating. We dusted off the Christmas tree and all of our ornamaents and got to work. Landon didn't really know what to think of the huge tree that sprouted up in the living room, but after a while, he actually started to like it a little too much. He became extremely fascinated with all the round bulbs and likes to watch them bounce...so far we haven't
had anything shatter yet, but we've come awful close! It's a work in progress to say the least.
Last night we broke out our first Christmas movie of the season, introducing Landon to the old school Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer....we think he really enjoyed it, and he even learned how to say "Santa"...we also taught him to say "Ho ho ho" while patting his belly, so he's got the part down.
Today we're going to brave the wind to put up some Christmas lights, and then we're heading
over to Adam's parent's house for some dinner and fun.
